In Collaboration with Global Victoria Trade Alliance
Take the time to learn about the relationship between the German and Victorian Space sectors!
Germany is a world leader in the space sector and has significant strengths across space engineering and manufacturing, space operations, human spaceflight and medical research. Whilst Australia has historical involvement in the space sector, it is now going through a new phase of accelerated growth, Victoria’s space research and engineering capability has led with this growth, with some highly successful collaborations with the German space sector.
About our speakers:
Experts from research, industry and government on both sides will discuss the potential for further collaboration between Germany and Victoria. We will hear a keynote presentation from Dr. Timo Stufflers, Director of Business Development at OHB System AG in Munich. OHB is a private German space company that is expanding with experience in a huge variety of projects and interest in engaging with new technology and start-ups.
We will also hear from Dr. Peter Moar from Swinburne University and Dr. David Krutz from the German Aerospace Centre who collaborated on the DLR Earth Sensing Imaging Spectrometer (DESIS) project. This camera was designed to help monitor natural phenomena such as bush fires, floods, ash clouds, storms, rainfall, and drought, and in 2018, the camera was integrated onto the International Space Station.
About the panel discussion:
Our expert panel, moderated by Prof. Virginia Kilborn, Chief Scientist at Swinburne University includes:
- Dr. Sven Baerwalde, Head of Institute Development Space at German Aerospace Center
- Dr. Neil Sims, Program Manager - Space Technology Future Science Platform at CSIRO
- Prof. Patrick Humbert, Director at LaTrobe Institute for Molecular Sciences
- Dr. Rowena Christiansen, Space Health Lecturer at the University of Melbourne
At the end, join us for some networking to meet members from the space industry and peripheral organisations!
