A New Alliance to Drive the Hydrogen Transformation
As both governments fast-track their hydrogen strategies, the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce forms bilateral Hydrogen Alliance.

Sydney, 25 November 2020. In an exclusive webinar with Angus Taylor MP, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, and HE Dr Thomas Fitschen, German Ambassador to Australia, the German-Australian Chamber (AHK Australien) took the opportunity to introduce its new German-Australian Hydrogen Alliance to members. The Hydrogen Alliance serves as a liaison between industry and government partners.

Minister Taylor reaffirmed the will to cooperate closely with Germany, underlined by the feasibility study recently awarded to a consortium led by UNSW. Minister Taylor also talked about the government’s ambitious H2 under $2 strategy that will see the production cost of Hydrogen fall below under $2 per kilogram. Achieving this goal will require technical collaboration with international partners such as Germany, according to the Minister. “[Hydrogen] is a consistent theme in our work, and we see it as enormously important”, MP Taylor added. Hydrogen, hailed as a hero by Chief Scientist Alan Finkel is also high on Germany’s list of priorities to realise the energy transition.

“Supported by various events and roundtable discussions, such as yesterday’s webinar with Minister Taylor, the Hydrogen Alliance provides a business platform for Australian and German companies”, says Christoph von Spesshardt, Executive Director of AHK Australien and co-founder of the hydrogen alliance.

In 2021, the Hydrogen Alliance, co-founded by the Australian Hydrogen Council and KAS Australia, will present its working plan, which will have a strong focus on matchmaking between German and Australian business partners and organisations as well as advocacy.
