Melbourne Opera

Melbourne Opera is one of the most active opera companies in Victoria. It produces new productions of major operas for today’s audiences. The company was founded in 2003, following the closure of the Victoria State Opera in 1996, and is committed to high-quality, accessible opera performances.

Professional singers and creative teams take part in its main productions, along with its own orchestra and a volunteer choir. Each season, Melbourne Opera stages two to three major productions, as well as a smaller one.

Through the Richard Divall Program, it also supports young talent with financial assistance for singing lessons, coaching and languages, as well as opportunities to perform.
