About the Marketing Circle

The Marketing Circle offers its members the exclusive opportunity to discuss the latest industry challenges and developments, and to share their expertise and experience. Marketing is an ever-evolving industry. Technological developments such as MarTech, ChatGPT and Web 3 are changing the way we work and communicate with our audiences. The challenges posed by GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and Australian privacy laws often make it feel like we are trying to find our way through a legal jungle. The Marketing Circle gives marketing managers of our member organisations the chance to meet and discuss current developments in the marketing landscape, sharing expertise and experience. All of our circles follow the Chatham House rules.

Topic: Build your confidence in front of the camera

A free, hands-on media training session for AHK members to build confidence in front of the camera, sharpen key messages and practise a real media interview in Ascent Media’s studio.

Being interviewed by the media can be a valuable opportunity to build trust, share your expertise and represent your organisation. It can also be daunting when the record light turns on, and you need to communicate your message clearly, confidently and under pressure.

In this practical media training session, AHK members will learn how to prepare for media interviews, develop clear key messages and respond to different types of media questions. The session will cover the fundamentals of media engagement, how to adapt your message for different audiences and situations, and techniques for dealing with that last minute crisis interview.

The workshop will be led by Ascent Media's director Sam O'Reilly and communications expert and media trainer Jonathan Brown and will include hands-on interview practice inside Ascent Media’s studio. Each participant will prepare their own key messages before taking part in an individual on-camera mock interview, followed by constructive feedback and discussion with the group.

By the end of the session, participants will have a practical framework they can use when preparing for future media opportunities, a better understanding of how to communicate their message on camera, and first-hand experience of what it feels like to be interviewed in a professional studio environment.

Ascent Media is kindly hosting this free session at their Sunshine studio, and catering will be provided. It will also be a chance to connect with fellow AHK members, see behind the scenes of a working production studio and put your new skills into practice in front of the camera.
