Australia is regarded as one of the most important future markets for hydrogen – both in terms of production and application. The country aims to become a world-leading hydrogen producer, play a key role as a global hydrogen supplier, support the energy security of its trading and strategic partners, and facilitate compliance with international emissions targets.
Germany is regarded as an important partner for Australia in the hydrogen sector, providing knowledge, technical expertise and innovative solutions for the development of cost-effective components and systems. Conversely, Australia offers an ideal testing ground for hydrogen systems and technologies developed in Germany, ensuring their effectiveness in diverse and demanding environments. Australian industry is keen to deepen its cooperation with Germany and seeks long-term partnerships that promote innovation and scalability. Thanks to its technological strength and R&D expertise, Saxony has excellent opportunities to gain a foothold in the emerging Australian hydrogen market. The key lies in targeted partnerships, participation in funding projects and early positioning in relevant market segments such as mining, mobility and green steel production.
In order to identify specific opportunities for cooperation for Saxon companies – including those in the mechanical engineering and toolmaking sectors – hydrogen technology and networked systems, as well as potential for Saxon research and development institutions, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) is organising this cluster trip as part of the Programme for the Internationalisation of Regions in Structural Change (ISW), in cooperation with Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH and HZwo e. V., and with the support of the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce, under the motto “Going Down Under: The Saxon Hydrogen Mission”.
