Brisbane 2032

Queensland is preparing for its first Olympic and Paralympic Games. What seems to be at a fair distance offers great opportunities for collaboration in the industry through various projects already.

The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games will be hosted by Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland. The events will be held at 17 venues across the state. Seven of these venues are new builds, including the new Brisbane stadium, which will have seating for up to 63,000 people. Ten more locations will be modernised.

The Games are expected to generate $8.1 billion in economic benefits for Queensland and $17.6 billion nationally, including $4.6 billion from additional tourism and trade. This will stimulate new public and private investment, international partnerships, and local job creation and upskilling.

The Queensland government places a high emphasis on the participation of local, small, and medium-sized enterprises, with the aim of achieving an 85% local procurement target (including Australia-wide). There will be vast opportunities for international companies too, stretching from construction and infrastructure to transport, temporary overlays, sports equipment, athlete housing and services, hospitality, IT services and much more.

The Key Stakeholders

Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning of Queensland (DSDILGP)

The DSDILGP is responsible for all government-led construction and infrastructure projects, including the building and upgrading of venues and facilities, the delivery of the Games Villages Programme, and transport initiatives in collaboration with local councils. There will be four athlete villages in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton.

Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA)

The GIICA is responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of 17 new and upgraded venues, ensuring they meet the operational and legacy requirements for the Games and for future community use. These venues will be constructed in and around Brisbane, as well as across Queensland.

Venues - The 2032 Delivery Plan

GIICA follows the Queensland government procurement policies. You can find an overview of all planned venues here. More details and open opportunities can be found here.

Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee

The Organising Committee is responsible for delivering and operating the Games, including all temporary overlays, logistics and the procurement of goods and services for the Games' operations. The oversight of the brand development, marketing, sports programme and athletes' services is also being handled by the Committee. In addition, the Committee is also accountable for generating vital income through sponsorships, merchandise, tickets, hospitality products and volunteer recruitment.

Official procurement is conducted via the Industry Capability Network’s (ICN) Gateway Platform, which features a dedicated Brisbane 2032 project page. This page will display all current and future tenders for products and services procured by the Committee, as well as all open Expressions of Interest (EOI). Participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is strongly encouraged. Early registration for the EOIs is essential in order to be considered for future tenders. Submissions for the full or partial scope of the EOIs are possible. Companies can participate as either a supplier or a partner.

How can AHK Australien help you?

Many EOI and tender registrations will require an Australian Business Number (ABN) or an Australian subsidiary in order to participate. The Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032, in particular, will see a strong focus on local procurement, with the aim of sourcing 85% of all goods and services from Queensland and Australian suppliers. Therefore, having an Australian presence will be advantageous for future tenders, partnerships and procurement projects.
