AHK Event Report: Schumann Concert at Sydney Opera House

18.09.2019

On 7 September 2019, Premium Partners of the German-Australian Chamber were invited by CEO, Alexandra Voss, to enjoy a wonderful performance of classical music at the Sydney Opera House. It was a marvellous afternoon and the Chamber was delighted to welcome numerous of its highly regarded Premium Partners for this occasion.

The programme consisted of famous works of the German pianist and composer Clara Schumann, who was married to the composer, Robert Schumann. The concert was held on the occasion of Clara Schumann’s birthday (13 September 1819). She was well known as one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era.

Programme

Frauenliebe und Leben, Op. 42 (R. Schumann)

4 Lieder, Op. 12 (C. Schumann)

6 Lieder, Op. 13 (C. Schumann)

Dichterliebe, Op. 48 (R. Schumann)

The above mentioned works were presented by the world class musicians, Ayşe Göknur Shanal (soprano) and Ashley Hribar (piano), celebrating Clara Schumann’s birthday and women.

The great performance will surely be well remembered by many of the visitors.

Fun fact: did you know that an image of Clara Schumann was pictured on the 100 Deutsche Mark banknote from 1989 until the introduction of the euro in 2002?
