Merck’s Macquarie Park Office Wins Design Award

18/09/2020

The new Sydney office of Merck, a leading science and technology company, has been recognised for its outstanding commercial interior design and awarded a Gold Award at the DRIVENxDESIGN Sydney Design Awards 2020.

Merck worked with global design firm, Unispace, to create an innovative and creative office interior which brings to life Merck’s vibrant branding through purpose-built collaboration spaces, furnishings, aesthetic presentation and functionality. The DRIVENxDESIGN Award Program is the world’s largest network of design award programs and has been recognising outstanding projects from around Australia since 2010. The 2020 awards were announced during an online ceremony late last week.

Merck Healthcare Managing Director for Australia/New Zealand and Country Speaker Leah Goodman said Merck was delighted to receive the award. The company moved into its Macquarie Park office in Sydney in 2019, enabling the company to bring more than 120 Sydney employees from its Healthcare and Life Science businesses under the same roof for the first time.

“The office exemplifies Merck’s positioning and completely aligns with our vibrant brand and vision of research, innovation and creativity. To be surrounded by energy, colours and natural light enables our aspiration of creativity. As soon as you walk into the office you feel the atmosphere of collaboration, cohesion and fun,” Ms Goodman said.

“It’s a very different environment to that which we were previously used to, and with its unique layout, staff now have access to a variety of meeting rooms and quiet spaces, as well as both indoor and outdoor discussion places.

“Importantly, the flexible office design has allowed us to easily adapt to the ‘new normal’ of physical distancing and implement a phased return of staff to the office in a COVID-safe way, with staff feeding back to us how secure and comfortable they feel coming back to the office.

“Despite this year’s challenges, Rebecca Lee (Merck Life Science Managing Director ANZ), and I are united in our goal for the Healthcare and Life Science teams to work closely together to further drive the success of our businesses and apply Merck’s science and technology to make life better for the Australian community.”
