Deutsche Schule Melbourne welcomes new Principal Jörg Dopfer

01/07/2022

Melbourne, Australia, 1 July 2022: Jörg Dopfer today officially takes over the role of Principal at Deutsche Schule Melbourne from his predecessor Bernice Ressel. Principal Jörg Dopfer only recently moved to Australia from Freiburg in Germany where he worked as Head of the English Department at the Kepler Gymnasium and was in charge of the school’s bilingual program. Mr. Dopfer also spent two years as Interim Deputy Principal and Head of Secondary School at the Izmir Branch of the German Embassy School in Turkey. As a teacher for the subjects of English and Sport, he brings more than 20 years of teaching and several years of leadership experience to this new role.

Deutsche Schule Melbourne (DSM) is a German English Bilingual Primary School located in Melbourne’s inner north suburb of Fitzroy North. The school is an accredited German School Abroad and has around 140 students who learn both English and the German language through a well-established immersion program. DSM provides families with a bilingual education for German-speaking and non-German-speaking children alike. The school satisfies the highest standards in both the Australian and German education systems. This allows for children to smoothly transition between the German and the Australian education system – or in fact between any schools within the network of 140 German schools abroad.

Deutsche Schule Melbourne says farewell and thank you to Bernice Ressel after seven highly successful years steering the school. She led with great care for students, staff and the wider community – always putting the students, their education, personal development and wellbeing first. She cemented the bilingual and bicultural model and character of the school and oversaw the school growing and prospering; and she did this in a way that role-modelled the school’s values and made sure everyone had fun along the way. Thank you!
