Unlocking the potential of Australia’s emerging AgTech sector

23/04/2019

The Australia Federal Government has launched “Agriculture 4.0”, a new initiative to help attract more investment in Australia’s agtech sector. Through the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Agriculture 4.0 is being positioned ‘as important for Australia as Industry 4.0 is for Germany.’ The campaign will help the agricultural sector to be more profitable, efficient, safe and environmentally friendly, according to Austrade.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham said a new digital platform known as ‘Agriculture 4.0’ would help better connect Australian agtech and foodtech businesses with overseas investors and innovators.

“Australia has the potential to be a powerhouse in agrifood tech and we want to help the sector reach its full potential,” Minister Birmingham said.

Bosch Australia President Gavin Smith is a member of the Government’s Taskforce appointed to oversee the activities and objectives of the Agriculture 4.0 initiative.

“Our investments in and partnerships with Australian institutions is testament to Australia’s strengths in technologies that will lead the next revolution in agriculture”, said Gavin Smith, President of Bosch Australia.

The Agriculture 4.0 initiative will feature case studies and insights from Australian agtech and foodtech innovators. Included in the case studies is Australian agtech company, The Yield. Bosch is a lead investor and technology partner of The Yield, responsible for the development and manufacture of the microclimate sensing system. The company has a vision to use real-time microclimate data to transform agriculture and food production practices.
