On 21 October 2015 President Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO hosted a Reception at her residence, organised by the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, on the occasion of the visit of Professor Dr Maria Boehmer, Minister of State and head of the German side of the Australia-Germany Advisory Group (AGAG).
Addressing about 70 distinguished, high-level guests from politics, government and the arts, Professor Boehmer praised the excellent collaboration between Mathias Cormann, Finance Minister of Australia and Head of the Australian part of the AGAG, Lucy Turnbull and herself, and their great ideas and inspirational contributions to the findings of the group. Prof Boehmer went on to thank Lucy Turnbull AO for opening the doors of her home and noted that she was delighted with Lucy being such a great supporter of Germany and anything German. She concluded her speech by mentioning that Germany and Australia both have their individual strengths and are well advised to combine these: There is still room for improvement in the collaboration of these two great countries (“ist noch immer Luft nach oben”).
During the Reception, all guests had the opportunity to try selected Australian and German wines together with delicious canapés. Thanks to the delayed storm, the sunset could be enjoyed from the terrace surrounded by a magnificent harbour view.
In addition to Prof Boehmer, the Chamber was delighted to welcome Volkmar Klein, Member of the German Parliament, H.E Dr Christoph Mueller, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Australia, Lothar Freischlader, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hubertus Legge, Deputy Consul General, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret’d) at the reception.
The Chamber would like to thank all guests who attended the reception. A special thank you goes to our President Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO for being a fantastic host.
We would also like to acknowledge the event support from Gerolsteiner for the German sparkling mineral water.
