Christmas in July @ Kingsleys in Sydney

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year”; that is, when the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce invites all of its members and friends to rejoice in a traditional, German-inspired Christmas festivity during the Australian wintertime. This year, Christmas in July was celebrated at Kingsleys Australian Steakhouse on Thursday, 21 July. Guests were welcomed with festively decorated tables and subtle, jazzy Christmas tunes, all of which made for a great, Christmas-like atmosphere (despite the rather unusually warm temperatures outside).

Kristian Wolf, Executive Director of the Chamber, marked the beginning of the night by welcoming all guests to this special celebration. He thanked LeasePlan, Principal Partner of the event not only in Sydney, but also next week in Melbourne, and invited Peter Boutros to say a few words. Peter shortly introduced LeasePlan to the audience and wished everyone a great evening.

During dinner, all 60 guests were treated to a world-class musical performance by a quartet of Sydney’s leading musicians – Lushous Strings. While setting the mood with some well-known classic Christmas carols, such as Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World and Silent Night, the string quartet also played pieces by J.S. Bach, which mixed up the performance. To everyone’s delight, the musicians even played requests from the audience.

Another highlight of the evening was certainly the Christmas raffle. With much anticipation and curiosity as to what the prizes this year might be, everyone made sure to hand in their raffle tickets. Kathryn Ryan from LeasePlan acted as the raffle announcer and drew the lucky winners HDI-Global and Bosch Rexroth. All four raffle prizes were scooped up by their employees: Philipp Glanz and Kai Brueggemann secured the fourth and third prizes of the evening respectively, each being a high-valued spice rack, kindly sponsored by Gewürzhaus. The two gentlemen were certainly very happy about their “team success”!

Thomas Raab from Bosch Rexroth went home with the second prize, a gift certificate to the value of $100 for Kingsleys Australian Steakhouse thus, invited to return and try some of their other specialities. Finally, the fortunate winner of the evening was Allen Thorpe, likewise from Bosch Rexroth, who won a free night’s stay at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne as well as a ticket to the 3rd German-Australian Chamber Golf Day on 24 October. After an eventful evening, all guests continued to network and mingle until late.

However, Christmas would not be Christmas without presents. No one left empty-handed thanks to Beiersdorf, DB Schenker, Freudenberg Household Products, Haribo, Lebkuchen Schmidt and Schwarzkopf & Henkel Australia, all of which were generous in-kind partners of the event. They made sure that all guests walked home with a bag full of little treats and surprises.

Once again, this year the Christmas in July dinner proved to be a success, bringing the atmosphere of a German Christmas to Australia, on the other side of the world. The German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce would like to thank again all partners for the event, especially its Principal Partner LeasePlan for its generous support.
