Policy Advisory Committee

The German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce has decided to expand its policy work for the benefit of its members and the German-Australian business community.

Beside the establishment of the new role of Director of Policy, this push also includes the establishment of a Policy Advisory Committee. The dedicated members of this volunteer committee provide their expert input based on their sector-specific or cross-sectoral expertise in the German-Australian business community. There is also a strong link to diplomatic developments through the membership of the German Consul-General Lothar Freischlader and to the Chamber’s Board of Directors through the membership of several Board members.

The main purpose of the Policy Advisory Committee is to provide expert advice to the Chamber’s Board and Executive in matters relevant for the German-Australian business community. Currently, the two main focus areas for the Policy Advisory Committee are the implementation of the business and trade-related recommendations by the Australia Germany Advisory Group (AGAG) and the upcoming Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations.

From time to time, the Policy Advisory Committee invites external guests to participate in the meetings to discuss key developments. One such guest was Rhonda Piggott, the New South Wales State Director at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The committee is chaired by Board member Simone Whetton. The current main focus areas of the committee work include:

  • Visa reform
  • free trade negotiations
  • recognition of skills and qualifications

Please contact the Director of Policy Dr Michael Zettinig if you would like to contribute to the discussions and future submissions.
