Event Report: Port of Melbourne Tour

30.11.2017 Homepage

It was a hot day in Melbourne when over 40 members and guests of the German-Australian Chamber boarded the Magical Charters boat for a scenic cruise through the Port of Melbourne yesterday. After settling in on board, enjoying a refreshing drink and listening to the safety briefing, the boat left the dock shortly after 6:00 pm. To start the event, Neill Dawson (Victorian Branch General Manager, Röhlig Logistics) gave a very informative presentation on the company, their activities as well as challenges and opportunities.

The guests were free to stay in the comfortable, air-conditioned indoor space enjoying the views of the Port and city of Melbourne through the big class windows, or wander out to the front and back deck. A few curious ones even climbed up the stairs and paid Captain Angelo a visit in the control room of the ship. An absolute highlight of the tour was the excursion into the container harbour where our boat cruised next to massive container ships and high-rising loading docks. The early evening’s beautiful lighting created picturesque scenes as the golden sun rays brought out the colours of the containers. This made for a beautiful photo backdrop and we captured lots of beautiful memories on camera. Please find the pictures from the Port of Melbourne Tour in our event album on Flickr.

Next to enjoying the breathtaking views and cooling evening breeze our guests indulged in good conversations and mingling while having drinks and tasting various little delicacies from the delicious flying buffet. Captain Angelo and his crew did a great job in making everybody feel welcome, safe and comfortable aboard and made it a memorable trip for everyone.

We would like to thank our sponsor, Röhlig Logistics, for generously supporting the Port of Melbourne Tour cruise this year. Also, we are grateful to have Don Forsdyke from the Port of Melbourne joining us and sharing his profound knowledge on the port with us.

We look forward to welcoming you at our End of Year Reception 2017 in the International Chamber House Melbourne next week or at one of our many other events next year.
