Breakfast Seminar Brisbane: The new German Australian Double Tax Agreement in the time of a changing International Tax Landscape

22.03.2016 Homepage

14 guests attended the first Breakfast Seminar Event in Brisbane this year, organised by our newly established Queensland Chapter and kindly hosted by our Premium Partner, accountancy & advisory firm BDO.

Within the distinguished setting of BDO’s boardroom, Corporate and International Tax partner Mark Molesworth explained to various representatives of companies that are heavily dealing with or in Germany what is new in the Australia-Germany Double Tax Agreement (DTA) which was agreed between the two countries on 13 November last year. The new agreement replaces the DTA signed in 1972 and will come into force after both countries have completed the necessary domestic ratification procedures. Its express purpose is to eliminate double taxation in the case of taxes on income and capital, without creating opportunities for non-taxation or reduced taxation through tax evasion or avoidance.

How relevant the new regulations are to our members became clearly evident in the round of interested questions from the audience that followed Mark’s presentation (a copy of which is available for download here). We wish to once again thank BDO and in particular Mark as well as Partner Susan Rix AM for facilitating this event.
