3rd Annual German Chamber & Allianz Golf Day

In a month where the weather can only be described as inconsistent und unpredictable, we were fortunate enough to be greeted at the beautiful Huntingdale Golf Club by a nice and moderate spring day for our 3rd Annual German Chamber & Allianz Golf Day on the 24th of October.

With 18 groups competing in this year’s Golf Day, the event was well attended by our sponsors, members & associates.

We had the special pleasure to welcome our new Ambassador, her Excellency Dr Anna Prinz, who welcomed our guests and took the chance to get to know some of our members during a game of golf.

By the time everyone had registered, enjoyed a light lunch, and got in the group picture, the sky was clear and the sun came out – perfect conditions for the 1pm shotgun tee-off!

Along with the fine weather came solid scoring: An incredible number of 4 guests won the “Beat the Pro” competition where our amateurs had a chance to challenge a professional golfer during the tournament. Craig Chamberlin was announced the winner of the competition though, as he managed to hit it thin into the tree, bounced back between the bunkers & finished 5 feet from the hole.

Excitingly, our golfers also had the chance to win a brand-new Audi A3 at the “Hole in One competition”. Unfortunately, the closest swing missed the hole about 3 meters and no one won the hole-in-one prize.

With so many competitions in place, Events Coordinator Kate Hayes made sure that our golfers were well hydrated and fed  with snacks, driving around the Huntingdale Golf Club in the Beverage Cart kindly provided by Allianz. In addition, this year our guests benefited from a beer tasting during their round of golf provided by our member company First Beer Sommelier Australia. Three different beers could be tasted and contributed to a little refreshment during the tournament.

A good 4 hours after tee-off, the teams started to get back into the beautiful Club House for pre-dinner drinks before everyone made their way to the dining room where a delicious 3-course dinner was enjoyed by all.

Some great prizes were made available to the winners thanks to our Platinum Sponsor Allianz, our Gold Sponsor Audi, and Hophaus, who were one of the Hole Sponsors and Longest Drive Competition Sponsors.

And the winners were:

Ist Place (prize sponsored by Allianz)

with a score of 54.125: Willem van Wyk (Allianz), Paul Pryor (Aon) , Maurice Gatto (JLT) & Paul Close (Marsh)

2nd Place (prize sponsored by Audi)

with a score of 57: James Stack (Allianz), Travis Wendt (Aon), Jacques Moritz (Marsh) & Russell Toll (Wilis)

3rd Place (prize sponsored by Hophaus and Decante This)

Nearest the Pin prize sponsored by Hophaus went to: Rüdiger Schrage from Mercedes-Benz Australia

Longest Drive prize sponsored by Allianz was won by Jacques Moritz from Marsh

To avoid disappointment for the players that didn’t make it on the pedestal this year, we also organised a prize raffle for the chance to win more great prizes that were donated by our member companies: STIHL garden shears were given to Andrew Adams from Logistics Solutions Australasia, Max Torkar from Deutz Australia and Rudolphe Ratheau from DB Schenker; Dr Jens Mohr won a Park Hyatt gift voucher for 2 nights at our beautiful member hotel; Martin Rajsp from RocketBoots won a Villeroy & Boch dinner set; Sam Nania from Brecknock Insurance Brokers won a Bosch car service voucher and David Dunham from Siemens won a fabulous 3D printed golf club by our newest member Spee3D.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors and Huntingdale Golf Club for helping us make the German-Australian Chamber & Allianz Golf Day such a huge success. We would especially like to thank our main sponsor Allianz for their outstanding support. Our appreciation also extends to Audi, who gave our players the tantalizing chance to win one of their great cars. Thanks also to our Hole Sponsors a.hartrodt, Hophaus and STIHL and to our in-kind sponsors.

We hope you all had a great day – even if you didn’t win. As they say, the worst day on the golf course is still better than the best day in the office!
