We have much pleasure in inviting you and your guest to attend this special event to be held at the Cathedral Church of St Andrew, Sydney on Tuesday 8 August 2017 at 6pm.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in Europe.  Precipitated by Martin Luther’s nailing of his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Church, the Reformation gave birth to the modern age.  The protest against unfettered institutional authority and the assertion of the individual conscience launched a movement that transformed European thought, culture and society.

This anniversary is being celebrated around the world with a special exhibition produced by the Federal Republic of Germany. It will be on display in Sydney at St Andrew’s Cathedral throughout the months of August and September. I am delighted that His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd), Governor of New South Wales will open the exhibition and address the gathering.

We very much hope that you and your guest will be able to join Mr Lothar Freischlader, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bishop Michael Stead and the world famous Cathedral choir who will sing music of the Reformation for this special occasion. The opening of the Federal Republic of Germany’s official exhibition by His Excellency, The Governor of New South Wales marks Sydney’s formal commemoration of this 500th anniversary.
